The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Tom Baker, who played the Fourth Doctor, was asked in an exclusive Radio Times interview whether he would ever return to Doctor Who on screen. Centre · 2He said: "I went back to Doctor Who for the 50th anniversary and I'm often asked if I'll go back again. Well, I'm really quite shameless, especially if I haven't worked for a few weeks, so… I'm still fond of it." Centre · 2Baker's last on-screen appearance in the series was in 2013, as The Curator in the 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor.

Centre · 1Collider describes the Curator as implied to be a future incarnation of the Doctor with the Fourth Doctor's face. Centre · 1Radio Times says Baker continues his association with the series through audio work, and is set to appear in more audio adventures released next year. Centre · 1The interview was tied to AUK's Kickstarter campaign for his Sherlock Holmes audio drama Sir Sherlock: The Doctor's Son, the fourth in a series that reunites him with John Leeson, who played K-9.

Centre · 1Baker also joked about tweaking scripts, saying he is "a great hogger of the spotlight", and recalled recording Big Finish scripts from home with his wife Sue. Centre · 1Collider, which ran the quote three days later under a headline calling Baker "officially ready" to return, gives context on the show: the BBC closed its call for proposals from potential producers on 2 October 2026, shortlisted candidates are to be interviewed in January 2027, and the new production contract is due to be awarded in March 2027. Centre · 2Neither outlet reports any approach from the BBC or any planned role for Baker.
