The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Tom Hiddleston told Esquire UK that landing a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe "completely changed my life". Centre · 1The 45-year-old became internationally famous in 2011 when he debuted as the villain Loki in the film Thor. He has since played the character in later Marvel films and a Disney+ series, and will return in Avengers: Doomsday. Centre · 1Hiddleston said the part gave him a chance to play a very complex role at a scale he had not had before, and that "Once you cross that bridge, you can’t re-cross it." He said he tries to hold onto his "ordinary self" and "keep my feet on the ground".

Centre · 1He had already built an award-winning reputation in British theatre and appeared in films before Loki. His other work includes War Horse, Midnight in Paris, I Saw the Light, The Night Manager and The Hollow Crown. Centre · 2Both outlets also report Hiddleston's comments on fatherhood. He said becoming a father "has completely changed my life" and "changed the centre of meaning in my life", calling it "the most important role I’ll ever play". Centre · 1He said he could not have been prepared for how "your heart expands" as a parent, and that parenthood is "the best room in the house" and "the whole point of living here".

Centre · 2Hiddleston and his partner, the actor Zawe Ashton, met while starring in a stage revival of Betrayal. They had their first child in 2022 and a second in 2025, which Digital Spy says they confirmed last December. Centre · 1Digital Spy describes Hiddleston as "notoriously private" and ties the interview to the Apple TV drama Tenzing, which it says is released on 16 October. In it, Hiddleston plays Sir Edmund Hillary alongside Caitríona Balfe and Willem Dafoe. Centre · 1The full interview is in the November/December issue of Esquire UK, on sale from 14 October.
