The story, neutrally told

A viral video and photos show two Ukrainian tourists on a sea turtle on a beach in Oman. Al Jazeera reports that this has resulted in legal action against them for alleged breaches of the country's wildlife protection laws. Fox News names the pair as Vadym Oleynik, 32, and his fiancée Olena Kravchenko, and says they filmed the encounter at the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve.

According to Fox News, the turtle was trying to lay eggs at the time, and the couple were also seen holding her hatchlings and posing for photos. Fox News says Oman's Environment Authority has apparently opened an investigation, calling the incident a violation of Omani laws and saying it has taken "necessary legal action against the individual." Oleynik deleted the video and, after heavy criticism on social media, apologised publicly, calling his actions "a mistake" and saying he never meant to harm the turtle.

Fox News says it is unclear what the legal consequences will be.
