The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social at 11:22 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday 7 October that Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico, whom he called "James TalaFREAKo", was "MISSING IN ACTION". Mixed · 2Trump wrote that "No one has seen him for an extended period of time. Where is he? What is wrong with him? Bad rumors are coming out." Raw Story said he gave no evidence and did not say what the rumors were or where they came from. Mixed · 2Trump also demanded that Talarico debate Republican nominee Ken Paxton, calling Paxton "one of the best Attorney Generals in the Country" who would "hopefully" become a senator.

Right · 1Talarico replied: "President Trump just said Ken Paxton should debate. I agree. Ball's in your court [Ken]." Right · 1The Washington Examiner reported that Talarico cancelled two campaign events with the flu, which he disclosed at a U.S. Hispanic Business Council forum last week where he appeared virtually. He told the Dallas Morning News his illness was likely from shaking "too many hands on the campaign trail". Right · 1The Examiner said Talarico was last seen at a campaign event in New York on Sept. 28, and that Paxton's campaign released an ad Wednesday saying he was last seen in Texas on Sept. 26.

Mixed · 2The post came the same day Axios published leaked audio of Paxton at private fundraisers, in which he blamed the Iran war and higher prices for dragging on his campaign. Mixed · 2Texas has not elected a Democratic senator since 1988; the race has tightened, and the Examiner said recent polling shows Paxton trailing narrowly, with less than a month to Election Day.
