The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday 27 October 2026 that he would ban the term artificial intelligence, as he questioned why the Wall Street Journal was not using his preferred term, super intelligence. Centre · 1In a post on Truth Social he asked: "When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be." Mixed · 2He added: "In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, 'AI/Artificial Intelligence,' in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy."

Right · 1Just the News reported that Trump signed an order renaming AI to SI in late September, contending that the term is more accurate, and that outside government agencies many organisations have resisted the rebrand. The CNA report does not mention such an order. Right · 1Just the News placed the move alongside other attempts to change the vernacular, saying that in his second term Trump has signed orders renaming Lake Ontario "Lake America" and the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America", and noting that terms like "bigly" and "covfefe" entered public use. Centre · 1The coverage does not include a response from the Wall Street Journal, and does not say what a ban would entail or how it would be enforced beyond government documents.
