Trump posts AI image of penguins welcoming him to Greenland, which has none

Trump shared AI-generated images on Truth Social, including one of penguins in US-themed clothing greeting him in Greenland. Penguins don't live in the Arctic, and the posts followed a late-September US-Denmark-Greenland security agreement.

The story, neutrally told

Left · 2President Donald Trump shared an AI-generated image on Truth Social showing a likeness of himself in front of a snowy mountain vista with penguins dressed in American colours. Left · 2The Independent reported that the penguin image was among more than two dozen posts Trump made on Sunday; Raw Story, citing The Daily Beast, said it was flagged on Monday. Left · 2Greenland has no native penguins: they live almost entirely in the Southern Hemisphere, and the only wild penguin north of the Equator, the Galápagos penguin, lives roughly 4,900 miles away.

Left · 2Trump also posted a second AI image captioned "Hello, Greenland!", showing him over the island's mountains or a village; the two outlets describe the scene differently. Left · 1Greenlandic commentator Orla Joelson mocked the post, asking whether Trump skipped geography class, and other online commenters joked about it. Left · 2The posts follow a late-September agreement among the US, Denmark and Greenland that allows an expanded US military presence while keeping Greenland within the Kingdom of Denmark.

Left · 1Trump said the agreement gives the US "permanent control over security" in Greenland, while Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said it recognises Danish sovereignty and Greenlanders' right to self-determination. Left · 1Trump has repeatedly voiced interest in taking control of Greenland, at times suggesting force; polls find few Americans and even fewer Greenlanders in favour, and the island has about 56,000 people. Left · 1Raw Story also tied the post to Trump's interest in AI, citing a TIME report on his use of Grok and his recent remark "It's not AI, it's S.I."

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.

Framing
Both left-leaning outlets treat the penguin error as a gaffe. Raw Story mocks it as a 'humiliating flaw' and links it to Trump's AI fixation. The Independent is more factual, adding the agreement and Danish response.
Emphasis
The geographic error, online mockery, and the Greenland deal context.
Leaves out or plays down
Neither includes a White House response or explains why Trump posted the image.
Charged language
“Humiliating flaw”“AI-generated fantasy”“embarrassing flaw”
For example
“Humiliating flaw spotted in Trump's latest AI-generated Greenland threat” — Raw Story
“an Arctic island of polar bears, glaciers and fraught geopolitics - but no penguins” — The Independent
