The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Thomas Tuchel, England's head coach, said he would consider picking Manchester City players even if the club were relegated from the Premier League as punishment for breaching the league's financial rules. Right · 1Speaking before Saturday's Nations League match against Croatia in Rijeka, he said: "There's always a possibility... I will always try to pick the best team for the camp, for the occasion, for the tournament, and I will never rule out that they don't play in the top flight in their country. So you need to look at this case by case." Mixed · 2City have been found guilty of financial breaches by an independent panel. The club maintains its innocence and has appealed, claiming, according to the Irish Independent, "irrefutable evidence" of its innocence.

Mixed · 2Tuchel acknowledged the case is discussed in the England camp. He told reporters it is "of course a topic" talked about at meals, and that City players receive many messages and calls about it. Left · 1He was uncertain whether it amounts to a distraction. He said he does not see it in meetings, in how the players behave with teammates or in training, and called worry a "very human reaction" for young, ambitious players who are told they are innocent. Mixed · 2Tuchel declined to discuss the case itself, saying no one needs his "half-knowledge", and that City players and staff talk about it only briefly. The Football Association blocked a follow-up question on whether the case endangers English football.

Mixed · 2He called up three City players, Marc Guéhi, Elliot Anderson and Nico O'Reilly. O'Reilly has left the camp injured, while Guéhi and Anderson are expected to start against Croatia despite recent form concerns. Mixed · 2England are second in Group A3 with three points from two games. Tuchel faces a right-back decision between Jarell Quansah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Ezri Konsa is expected to return in central defence.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
