The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2The United Arab Emirates beat Oman 1-0 in the Gulf Cup semi-final on Saturday 3 October, with forward Ousmane Camara scoring the only goal. Mixed · 2Arab News reports that Camara headed in a deep cross from Mamadou Coulibaly in the 22nd minute. CNA describes it as a close-range header. Mixed · 2The UAE missed the chance to extend the lead in the 56th minute, when Nicolas Giménez's penalty was saved by Oman goalkeeper Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini.

Mixed · 2Oman had reached the semi-final from Group A by a draw of lots, after finishing level with Iraq on all tiebreak criteria. They were runners-up in the previous edition. Mixed · 2In the earlier semi-final, Saudi Arabia beat Asian champions Qatar 3-2 on penalties after 120 goalless minutes. Goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais made two saves in the shootout. Centre · 1CNA says Al Owais, 34, denied Jassem Gaber and Boualem Khoukhi, saving Khoukhi's kick and then saving it again when it was ordered to be retaken. It says Qatar came closest when substitute Edmilson hit the crossbar, and that forward Akram Afif looked unhappy when substituted in the 69th minute.

Mixed · 2The final is the UAE's first since 2018 according to CNA, and the first against Saudi Arabia since 1996 according to Arab News. In 1996 the match finished 0-0 after 120 minutes and Saudi Arabia won on penalties. Mixed · 2The UAE, coached by Zlatko Dalić, are seeking a third Gulf Cup title after wins in 2007 and 2013. Saudi Arabia last won in 2003/04, and a fourth title would equal Iraq's record, according to Arab News. Right · 1Arab News notes that Saudi players will go into the final with fewer minutes in their legs than the UAE. It adds that the UAE have not lost to Saudi Arabia in four matches since 2016, though the last meeting, at the FIFA Arab Cup, was abandoned at half-time because of weather.

Mixed · 2The outlets give different venues for the final, both in Jeddah. Arab News says it is on 6 October at Al-Inma Stadium, while CNA says Tuesday at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
