The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2The Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, a group of independent experts commissioned by the UN, said in a report published on Monday 26 October 2026 that the Gaza ceasefire has not stopped what it describes as genocide by Israel. Mixed · 2The report said Israel was "continuing to commit genocidal acts with the genocidal intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinians in Gaza." Mixed · 2The commission said much of the harm has come from Israel's expansion deeper into Gaza during the ceasefire period: since the ceasefire was signed in October 2025, Israeli forces have gone from controlling 53% of Gaza to at least 60%.

Right · 1In that time, it said, Israeli fire across the advancing front has killed at least 196 Palestinians, including 18 women, 32 boys and 11 girls. Left · 1The commission said it drew its conclusions after investigating seven cases between November 2023 and June 2026 in which Israeli forces caused bodily harm to Palestinians, often children, who did not appear to be posing a threat. Mixed · 2The report also accused Israel and its security forces of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including extermination, torture, rape and other sexual violence and persecution of civilians, in the West Bank and Gaza.

Mixed · 2The commission said it had recently documented six cases of Israeli guards being sexually violent toward male detainees from Gaza in the Sde Teiman military prison, including one in which guards raped a detainee with a stick. Right · 1The report also describes accounts of sexual assault of female detainees, including a strip search of a pregnant woman; the Associated Press said it could not independently corroborate these accounts. Right · 1Israel, which denies both the genocide and the sexual assault claims, did not immediately respond to the report's publication.

Left · 1The commission seeks to document allegations and evidence of crimes in detail to support accountability, and its findings could be used by prosecutors at the International Criminal Court or in other jurisdictions. Mixed · 2The ceasefire scaled down a war that began with the Hamas-led attacks of 7 October 2023, in which militants killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages; Israel's campaign has since killed over 74,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
