The story, neutrally told

ADP reported on Wednesday that US private employers added 90,000 jobs in September. That beat forecasts: Anadolu cites expectations of 68,000, while Breitbart says economists expected around 70,000. August's figure was revised down to 36,000.

Education and health services led with 55,000 jobs, followed by leisure and hospitality with 22,000, manufacturing with 17,000 and construction with 15,000. Financial activities lost 16,000 jobs and professional and business services lost 11,000. Firms with 50 to 499 employees added 54,000 jobs, and Anadolu reports the Northeast added 56,000.

ADP chief economist Nela Richardson said job creation rebounded after a three-month slowdown and pay growth remained solid. Anadolu reports base pay up 3.2% and gross pay up 4.7% from a year earlier; Breitbart cites 3.0% for job-stayers and 4.8% for job-changers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases official September figures on Friday, with economists expecting nonfarm payrolls up 84,000 and unemployment at 4.1%.
