The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Alexander Volkanovski retained the UFC featherweight title on Saturday 24 October by stopping Movsar Evloev in the second round of the UFC 333 main event at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Left · 1Al Jazeera put the official time at 4:54 of the second round, with the fight called off with six seconds left in a scheduled five-round bout. Mixed · 2Accounts of the finish differ slightly: Al Jazeera describes a technical knockout with a right hand followed by ground-and-pound, while The National says a left hand dropped Evloev before ground-and-pound ended it.

Mixed · 2It was Evloev's first defeat as a professional; The National puts his previous record at 21 fights unbeaten. Centre · 1The National reports that the win, which moved Volkanovski's record to 29 wins and four losses, gave the 38-year-old a record nine featherweight title wins, passing Jose Aldo, and was his sixth defence across two reigns. Mixed · 2Volkanovski said he has no plans to retire and wants to keep fighting if he does not take too much damage, and The National adds he floated a move up to fight lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, with Jean Silva or the Aljamain Sterling–Kevin Vallejos winner as other options at 145 pounds.

Mixed · 2Evloev praised the champion after the fight, calling Volkanovski a great champion and saying it was an honour to share the cage with him; The National also quotes him calling it a "terrible fight". Mixed · 2In the co-main event, Petr Yan retained the bantamweight title with a unanimous decision over Merab Dvalishvili, with Al Jazeera reporting scorecards of 48-47 on all three cards. Mixed · 2The National says Yan weathered early takedown attempts before his striking took over from the third round, while Al Jazeera notes Yan beat Dvalishvili last December to regain the title.

Left · 1Elsewhere on the card, Al Jazeera reports Lone'er Kavanagh TKO'd Ramazan Temirov at 4:28 of round one, Alexander Volkov beat Rizvan Kuniev by unanimous decision, and Aaron Pico stopped Losene Keita in just over a minute.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
