The story, neutrally told

Walton Goggins is set to join the cast of Universal's 'Miami Vice '85', according to an exclusive from Deadline citing sources. Screen Rant, relaying Deadline's report, says Goggins has been cast as a villain, possibly one of the minions of John Leguizamo's lead antagonist. Deadline says the role is unconfirmed: its sources say Goggins would play one of the henchmen to Leguizamo's 'Cartel king'.

Joseph Kosinski is directing; the film also stars Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, John Leguizamo and Danny Ramirez, alongside Jordan and Butler. Deadline's sources say Kosinski wanted Goggins early, but his schedule on the show Fallout had to be sorted out first; once that was settled last week, a deal was done for the Emmy nominee. The film has a screenplay by Dan Gilroy and is described as an all-new version inspired by the pilot of the 1984-90 NBC series, exploring the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami.

It will be filmed for Imax, with production due to begin this year and release set for May 19, 2028. Dylan Clark Productions and Kosinski produce; the script draws on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich, and Eric Warren Singer wrote an earlier draft. Goggins is currently in production on Season Three of Fallout for Amazon, has wrapped 'Mister', and has the animated film 'Hexed' due in theaters on November 25.
