The story, neutrally told

Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday 29 September that Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest will open in theaters in June 2029. Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, The A.V. Club and IJR give the date as June 1; Collider and Radio Times give June 6, and IJR notes that Bleeding Cool reported June 6. Owen Harris directs from a screenplay by Beau Willimon.

Harris has directed episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Willimon created House of Cards and wrote on Andor. No cast or production start date has been announced. The film centres on Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of Westeros and is described as the first feature film in the franchise.

The Independent says it is based on Martin's Fire & Blood and set around 300 years before Game of Thrones. The Hollywood Reporter says the studio confirmed the title at CinemaCon earlier this year and that a film has been discussed since 2013. Deadline and IJR place the announcement amid Paramount's takeover of Warner Bros., which IJR says is pending and faces antitrust litigation.
