The story, neutrally told

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) posted on X on Tuesday chastising people who ask whether Crockett endorses Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico, saying the energy would be better spent opposing Republican Ken Paxton. The post followed the release by Crockett's FIRE PAC of a list of endorsed county and local candidates that did not include Talarico. Talarico defeated Crockett in the Democratic Senate primary in March; Crockett's concession statement said Democrats "must rally around our nominees and win."

Crockett has not actively campaigned for Talarico and has said the focus is on down-ballot races, and has cited Beto O'Rourke's 2018 run as a caution against concentrating on a single race. Newsweek notes that in July Talarico said he was honored to have Crockett's "support and her endorsement," but that Crockett has not explicitly endorsed him. Crockett told the Dallas Morning News that Democrats may not be fully united behind the ticket among Black voters; Breitbart reports Crockett said the Black community is not excited to support Talarico and suggested racism played a part in the primary loss.

Former Rep. Susan Wild (D-PA) sharply criticised Crockett over the list, while Crockett wrote that from now until Election Day there would be no energy spent on "anything remotely negative or false" and pointed to candidates who "APPLIED to be endorsed". Polls this month show Talarico narrowly ahead of Paxton, including 49% to 44% in a Texas Public Opinion Research survey.
