The story, neutrally told

Hannah Benfield, 34, was found dead at the bottom of cliffs on the Channel Island of Alderney early on Monday 28 September. Guernsey Police were alerted at around 11pm on Sunday, and emergency services were sent to an area known as The Guns. Channel Islands Air Search reported a sighting of a person at 4:28am on Monday, and the woman was later confirmed dead.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder; he was first treated in hospital in Alderney and is now in police custody. Both outlets describe it as the island's first murder arrest or charge since the Second World War; the Mirror says this is 'reportedly' so. Det Supt Jonathan Bancroft asked the public not to speculate and said police are keeping an open mind.

Police said they are not looking for other suspects and do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the wider community. Police have appealed for dashcam footage from Rue De Longis or elsewhere in the west of the island between 7.30pm and 11pm on Sunday 27 September. Alderney vicar Mother Samantha Martell told the BBC the death has 'shaken' the island, whose population is 2,167; Benfield's family has asked for privacy.

Left2 outlets

Framing
Both outlets lead on the rarity of a murder arrest in a tiny island community, presenting the death through police statements and the vicar's comments.
Emphasis
The island's small, close-knit population, its historic lack of murders, and the community's response.
Leaves out or plays down
Neither reports how Benfield died or any link between her and the arrested man; the Mirror's 'murder charge' wording sits loosely against an arrest without charge.
Charged language
“rocked”“first murder arrest since WW2”
For example
“Body of mum found at bottom of Channel Island cliffs as police make first murder arrest since WW2” — Daily Mirror
“A tiny island off the coast of the UK has been rocked by its first suspected murder in nearly a century.” — Metro
