The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Nouvelle Chua Ruoshi, a Singaporean woman, pleaded guilty on Monday 26 October 2026 to charges of conspiracy to commit child abuse, intentionally disposing of a corpse and drug consumption, over the death of four-year-old Megan Khung. Centre · 2SCMP, citing The Straits Times, reported that three further charges of conspiracy to commit child abuse will be considered when Chua is sentenced on 13 November. For intentionally disposing of a corpse she can be jailed for up to seven years. Centre · 1Video clips of the abuse, some filmed by Chua, were played in court, and the judge warned that they were distressing and told anyone who wished to leave that they could.

Centre · 2Megan was born in October 2015 to Foo Li Ping and her then husband, Khung Wei Nan. After the marriage broke down she lived with her maternal grandmother, while Foo moved in with her boyfriend Wong Shi Xiang in January 2019. Megan stayed at the couple's flat on some weekends, and the abuse began there in February or March 2019. Chua became close friends with Foo in 2019 and stayed at the flat. Centre · 1According to the CNA account of the court proceedings, Megan was caned, slapped, pushed and punched, forced to wear a soiled diaper over her head, made to eat food from a dustbin, had her head shaved, was paraded in public with red marks drawn on her face, and was made to sleep in a planter box outside the master bedroom. Chua filmed some of this. Centre · 2From January 2020 Megan was increasingly starved. On 21 February 2020, after a day without food, Wong punched her in the stomach hard enough that her back hit the wall. Chua arrived in the early hours of 22 February, saw Megan on the bedroom floor clutching her stomach, and, when Foo and Wong dismissed it as attention-seeking, joined them in taking drugs.

Centre · 1Hours later Megan was unresponsive. The three adults tried to resuscitate her but, according to SCMP, did not call an ambulance because Foo feared the abuse and drug use would be discovered. A Health Sciences Authority forensic pathologist said in October 2021 that possible causes of death included septicaemia from internal injuries such as a ruptured intestine or abdominal bleeding, per the High Court judgment. Centre · 2The group left Megan's body in the flat on 23 February 2020. On 8 May 2020 the three returned, and Wong and Foo retrieved the body in a box and burnt it in a metal barrel at a workshop for several hours. Wong later scattered the ashes at East Coast Park; neither the barrel nor any remains were recovered. Centre · 2Megan's father reported her whereabouts to police on 20 July 2020. Foo and Wong were arrested on 23 July and Chua the following day, according to SCMP.

Centre · 2In April 2025 Foo was sentenced to 19 years' jail for offences including allowing the death of a child, child abuse and disposing of a corpse, and Wong to 30 years' jail and 17 strokes of the cane for offences including culpable homicide, drug consumption and disposing of the corpse. Centre · 2The case prompted a Ministry of Social and Family Development review, whose panel in October 2025 found serious shortcomings across the agencies responsible for Megan's welfare. SCMP reports that minister Masagos Zulkifli apologised that month for the lack of timely intervention. The ministry has since announced a social services coordination centre (November 2025, per CNA) and a unit to gather information across agencies to detect abuse earlier (SCMP).

Framing
Both outlets give a detailed, chronological account of the case, leading with Chua's guilty plea and the court-presented facts of the abuse and the disposal of Megan's body. They add the sentences already given to Foo and Wong and the aftermath for child protection.
Emphasis
CNA stresses the specific acts of abuse and video evidence heard in court. SCMP adds the High Court judgment's detail, the pathologist's evidence, public anger, the minister's apology, and a separate child-abuse case sentenced on 21 October.
Leaves out or plays down
CNA does not give Chua's age, the sentencing date or the further charges. SCMP gives fewer details of the specific abuse acts and does not mention Chua's lawyers.
