The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2The Yemeni army said late on Wednesday 7 October that 1,860 Houthis had been "neutralised" in 2,103 targeting operations across several fronts, as part of Operation "Dawn of Yemen". Mixed · 2Armed forces spokesman Col. Majid al-Nuzaili said the "precision targeting operations" hit Houthi positions and movements and destroyed hundreds of pieces of military equipment and Houthi positions. Al Jazeera says the announcement was a social media post. Centre · 1Al-Nuzaili did not say how many of the 1,860 were killed or wounded. He also released footage that he said showed forces targeting Houthi fortifications, supply lines and positions. The Houthis had not immediately commented on the figures.

Mixed · 2Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi announced "Dawn of Yemen" on Sunday. Anadolu reports that he said it aims to retake Sanaa and restore state institutions, and Al Jazeera that it aims to retake all Houthi-held territory. Left · 1Al Jazeera reports that recent fighting has centred on areas around the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and the city of Mocha, which the Houthis captured in September. It says the strait has become more important for energy exports since the US-Iran conflict restricted trade through the Strait of Hormuz. Left · 1The Saudi-led coalition said on Wednesday it destroyed 82 Houthi military targets in Saada, Hodeidah, al-Jawf and Marib, including 11 mountain-based ballistic missile storages in Saada. It said this followed Houthi attacks on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport and Abha International Airport.

Left · 1Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said three people were killed in the airport attacks: one killed and eight wounded at King Khalid, and two killed and 28 wounded at Abha. Centre · 1The war began when the Houthis seized Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, and a Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognised government.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
