The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1On 13 October, Yemeni government forces said they had intensified offensive operations against the Houthis on the eastern and southern fronts as part of the ongoing "Dawn of Yemen" operation. They claimed around 1,200 Houthi fighters had been "neutralized", with 2,200 strikes carried out. Mixed · 2The next day, 14 October, the military spokesman raised the figures to 1,250 Houthi fighters "neutralized" and 2,309 strikes, with more than 460 military vehicles and pieces of equipment destroyed or damaged (up from more than 440 a day earlier). Anadolu Agency gives his name as Majed Abdullah al-Nazili and had earlier given al-Nadhib; Arab News writes Al-Nuzaili. Mixed · 2Arab News reports the 1,250 as "killed", while Anadolu uses the spokesman's word "neutralized" in quotation marks. The 13 October figure was described as an initial battlefield estimate.

Mixed · 2The spokesman said the strikes, using warplanes, drones, artillery, rocket launchers and snipers, disrupted Houthi defensive lines, command-and-control centres and supply routes, allowing government forces to advance. In Taiz, he said forces continued airstrikes and ambushes on Houthi convoys and reinforcements. Centre · 1The army also said it captured five Houthi commanders west of Taiz province, including a major general, Akram Amer. Anadolu reported that military engineers were clearing mines in recaptured areas on the western front. Mixed · 2The spokesman urged families in Houthi-controlled areas to keep children away from recruitment and military sites, and repeated an amnesty offered by Rashad al-Alimi, chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, to fighters who lay down their weapons. He accused the Houthis of targeting residential neighbourhoods and civilian infrastructure in Taiz, and said government forces limit attacks to legitimate military targets.

Centre · 1Anadolu says the operation began earlier in October to retake Houthi-held areas, including Sanaa, and is backed by a Saudi-led coalition. It says the coalition reported 100 fighter jets in one phase and 136 targets destroyed. It also says government-aligned forces have announced advances on several fronts, including near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and that the current escalation began in July as the 2022 truce broke down. Mixed · 2The casualty and strike figures come from the government side's military spokesman. The coverage cites no independent verification and no Houthi response.
