The story, neutrally told

Right · 1Yemeni government forces said they carried out 753 strikes on Houthi targets in 24 hours as part of their 'Dawn of Yemen' campaign, according to military spokesman Col. Majed Al-Nuzaili, who posted on X late on Sunday 25 October. Right · 1He said the targets included field command and control centres, fortifications, firing sites, troop concentrations and reinforcements, and that at least 218 Houthi members and field commanders were 'neutralized' and 78 vehicles, weapons and pieces of equipment destroyed or disabled. Right · 1On Monday 26 October Al-Nuzaili reported 1,276 strikes in 24 hours, with about 382 Houthi commanders and fighters 'neutralized' and 140 vehicles and heavy weapons destroyed or disabled, along with several weapons and ammunition depots.

Right · 1That report described government troops backed by the Popular Resistance launching surprise attacks on the Taiz front with air support, and continued operations on the Al-Jawf, Marib and Al-Bayda fronts and in the south and southwest. Centre · 1Late on Tuesday 27 October the army said it carried out 1,382 strikes 'in recent hours', which it called 'precise and direct', and that around 440 Houthi fighters and commanders were 'neutralized', with new gains in Taiz governorate, according to Anadolu Agency. Centre · 1Al-Nuzaili said forces thwarted Houthi attempts to retake lost positions in Taiz, including on the Bab al-Mandab, Dhubab and Al-Mudhariba fronts, and continued offensive operations on the northern and northwestern approaches to the capital Sanaa and on the eastern front, with armoured vehicles, artillery and drones.

Mixed · 2The army says it limits targeting to legitimate military objectives and takes precautions to protect civilians and civilian assets; the Houthis had not immediately commented on the latest statement, and the casualty and strike figures come only from the army spokesman. Centre · 1Anadolu says Operation Dawn of Yemen has been under way since 5 October, and that Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi said it aims to restore state institutions from Houthi control and take control of Sanaa. Centre · 1Anadolu describes the fighting as part of an escalation that began in July, the most extensive since the relative calm after a truce began in April 2022, and says hundreds have been killed and wounded on both sides in Taiz over recent weeks.

Centre · 1The war dates to September 2014, when the Houthis seized Sanaa and several provinces; a Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognised government.
