The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2An excerpt from Jessica Radloff's oral history "Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw's-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy" has cast members discussing what it was like to work with Iain Armitage, who played Sheldon Cooper. Mixed · 2Armitage, who was eight when the series began and played the lead for all seven seasons, said: "It was a complete privilege to be on this show and play this character, but yes, it was a big undertaking for an 8-year-old. I always did the best that I could, and sometimes kids are not perfect. I was grateful to the people who understood that and gave me grace." Mixed · 2Annie Potts, who played Meemaw, said the show's characters were meant to serve his journey, which was a lot for a child to manage psychologically. She said: "Yes, sometimes he was difficult. But I've worked with grown-ups who were a lot worse." She added that he was sometimes tired, sometimes pushed people, and that people were "kissing his ass", and she said she spoke with "absolute love and respect".

Left · 1Raegan Revord, who played Missy, said that working 12 hours a day, five days a week, meant there would be arguments and clashing opinions, and that she and Armitage bickered like siblings. Centre · 1Screen Rant's longer excerpt adds other accounts. Wallace Shawn described Armitage as very manic and wild at first but said he grew into a graceful, well-mannered person. Jason Alexander said he had to respect both Armitage's maturity and his childishness. Alex Reid recalled a run-in after telling Armitage he was on camera, and said he apologised afterwards. Left · 1The series aired its final episode in May 2024 and led to the spinoff "Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage". Radloff's book is due out Oct. 20.
