The story, neutrally told

Director Zack Snyder gave an update on a possible third Rebel Moon film while promoting his new movie, The Last Photograph. Speaking to The Direct, Snyder said he had made director's cuts of the films and hoped they would become more popular and be discovered, creating a groundswell for another one. Screen Rant, which places the interview at the world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, reads his comments as meaning there is currently no movement on Rebel Moon 3 at Netflix.

Collider likewise says there have been no updates on future installments since the first two films failed. The two films, A Child of Fire and The Scargiver, came out on Netflix about four months apart from the end of 2023, and more films had originally been planned. Screen Rant reports mostly negative critic reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes scores of 22% and 16% and more mixed audience reactions, while Collider says critics and audiences maligned them.

Collider adds that the director's cuts were received better than the originals but were watched by far fewer people. The A.V. Club links the outlook to Snyder's move into independent filmmaking and Netflix's apparent abandonment of his LAPD action movie, and infers the director's cuts did not draw enough viewers. Collider says The Last Photograph debuted to middling reviews, and Screen Rant says its wide release date has not been set.
